The sparrows

Like laughy girls on a beach, they marvel at each other,
They flirt and giggle and joke and fling like monkeys at play
And make a pick at a mate.
The dames flaunt their new colours and the males exaggerate their strengths,
They skirt the vastness of the tree haggling over territory,
But even with the bad mouthing, they warn each other of danger.
For the colllective struggle to live blankets their hates.
Except for one lone one, who is poised on a far off branch frowning apart from the happy laughs.
And occasionally siezing a joker who happens to pick on her with a sour look.
Her colourful feathers are tucked and her dull over coat is all she brands,
A plague haunts her boundary
And she is left but a prey to times whirls.

A pale weather abounds the enviroment
And the cold morning wind is bitter and stinging.
They cuddle to each other
Like lovers caught in a gale.
Only yesterday, the sun shone so
That they played and flolicked.
Only yesterday their nests were tact
That they dreamt and made love.
Only yesterday thy sang so
That their voices croaked with fire
Now their voices croak with flue.
And their nests are sprayed to tatters
And the sun is scared into retreat
All for the weather awoke with an ache.
On a chance they took on a stance
And prayed to the guidance of ...
In an array, resonant flaps racked the air
Scattering the mist,
Echoing shadows' rest,
Scaring the paleness into movement,
As they rose in unity to venture out,
To the confines of a future.

The sparrows are flying
Far from the harsh world.
Their eyes burn from cold
And the wetness hugs their bodies,
But with resolution; the still fly.
And their breath is heavy with exhaustion but relieved.
And their teary eyes laugh with happy pain.
Their bones hold together but each move is a sweet painful tinge.
But alas; their hearts are laden with joy
Except for a dark ache that harbours the sweet memory of a fallen colleague
And the sour realization that the loner after all made it.
Now-the sun shines so and they loll in its blaze.
They swim and play and laugh and sing
For they have a clean picture of the world
The world that reserves a few such sweet moments for its visitors
The sparrows are flying!
